The disk laser is a brilliant combination of a solid-state laser and a semiconductor laser. The semiconductor laser provides a high degree of pumping efficiency and the solid-state laser, as a disk laser, provides the high beam quality. The result is the optimized combination of high laser power plus excellent beam quality, which is kept constant across the entire power range.
The advantages of the disk laser in comparison with conventional rod systems include its dramatically higher beam quality. Excitation via laser diodes enables machine efficiency of up to 25 %.
